This looks really promising! Currently out for folks with iPhone only, the app is available for purchase from iOS store. A free trial version would have been better for testing purpose. Check it out here.

Next-Gen Digital Human Performance by Andy Serkis

It's what they are calling volumetric capture, reconstruction and compression technology... in-other words a fancy term for state of the art facial 3D scan and motion capture integration algorithm. Digital humans have now crossed the uncanny valley and future looks promising with all the new hardware and tool-set. Lot of the credit goes to developers and artist behind the scene! Learn more here.

Check out the making of Gollum. Very impressive!
See the deformation on the character. There must be tons of corrective shapes driving the realistic expression of the character.

Markerless Facial Motion Capture

Check out this video of Markerless Facial Motion Capture by Motek Entertainment. The technology seen here is similar to what I have seen from Image Metrics re-targeting demos. Pretty cool stuff though.

Facial Motion Capture R&D

Hi there everyone! It's been a little while since I blogged something about myself ;)

Here is a little R&D video of facial MoCap animation. I really wanted to do a MoCap animation for a long time, specially from the moment I watched "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes" movie in the theatre (was an awesome movie). The MoCap animation demonstrated in this video is optics based. I used my mobile phones video camera to record the facial expression footage. Facial markers or stickers used for tracking process were glued to my "skinny" face :D

Anyways ... a little bit of research work that I did during my weekend! Hope you guys like it :)

P.S. The idea, tips and techniques applied in this video is a part of my online rigging workshop for Motion Capture Facial Setup!
